The Woolly Spider Monkey, which is found in the country of Brazil, lives in the Atlantic coastal forest along the Eastern coast. This species is listed as an endangered species. There are only 5% for this kind of species left. The Woolly Spider monkey is considered one of the most threatened primate species in the world. One reason they are disappearing is because of their desire for hunting their meat and fur. They were and are still hunted for their delicious meat by Amazonian Indians. Because the Amazonian Indians are natives, the protein in the monkeys is a very valuable source to them. The Spiders' bodies are broken for medicine; they are shot for stealing crops. No species of this kind is entirely free from danger. However, the major threat to their survival is the ongoing deforestation of the tropical forests, and other human activities, which is destroying their homes. That's the main reason why the brown-headed spider monkey is almost extinct. They are barely surviving in some small patches left of the coastal tropical forest. The white-bellied spider monkey is also being threatened, but some can still be found in sufficient numbers in remote and unpopulated regions in the Amazonian jungle. Some monkeys are also being kept by Indians and other people. When the young is taken from the mother, it is often killed in the process. To prevent the Woolly Spider Monkey from becoming extinct, we are trying to capture some of the species to save them. However, one is very hard to spot, let alone attempting to capture one. We are trying also to reduce deforestation, so we can save their homes. We all need to take a part in trying to save the Woolly Spider Monkey.
